Slashdot has a story up asking what services and classes community computer labs should offer. This is a topic of some interest to me as it's one of the things I'd like to do after getting my MIS.
Nutshell: I say we need functional Internet terminals with common productivity applications, general instruction targeted to new users of specific ages, more advanced classes targeted to specific interests, like "web publishing" or "how to run Linux." Offer people the opportunity to have LAN parties there, start community blog rings, bring users on as assistant admins... things like that.
What do you think? What services would you want to see? What would less computer-savvy friends and relatives want to see? Would you actually use a community computer lab? Why or why not?
