Catching Up

The second night of Chuffed was last night - tidy little turnout, not as huge as the first one, but good. People were dancing and the bar was busy. Thanks to everyone who came out. :)

Christine will be out of the country for the next Chuffed, so I am mulling over how best to sort out personnel for the next one. Might try something a little bit different. Hm.

I am off to Colorado for a few days - going out there for work. It has been snowing all day here today and flights out of DCA were canceled, so I may be in for a long day tomorrow. Wish me luck. The trip is part of a broader pattern of my taking on new and (spade a spade time here) more interesting tasks at work, which is great. It's an exciting time and I'm really grateful for the opportunity.

There's all this, "will Gore announce a Presidential bid if he wins at the Oscars tonight" stuff out there today. I can't imagine that he would, since the poetry of the moment would be problematic, though I guess a billion eyeballs might be hard to pass up. I hope he runs, but announcing after an Oscar and a Nobel and a few months of the other candidates (and the press) gunning for each other makes more sense to me. See also this choice morsel from ABC's The Note, via Atrios: "Basically, the political press wants to tempt Al Gore into the race, and then they will destroy him as a flip-flopping, exaggerating, stiff loser. And Gore knows this." The wit and wisdom of your liberal media aside, I think they have a point, which is why the former Vice President will wait until the last possible moment to announce if he chooses to run.

Andrew Sullivan has a nice post up today where he refers to a homily by Dean Sam Lloyd at the National Cathedral. As someone who attends services at the Cathedral regularly, Dean Lloyd's sermons are one of the things that I most value about that experience (right below the presence of my younger brother). I mention this, in part, because there has been a real resurgence of interest in faith among my friends (you people know who you are). You have to wonder why. Does this happen to people in their late 20s and early 30s? Are there other factors at work?

In other blog news, the eliminationist hate site Little Green Footballs has been focusing more and more on a Digg-based strategy for getting their message out and then getting pissed off when the community in this community bookmarking site has reacted by burying their stories. I counted three posts about their "unfair treatment" today.

Mob Rule at Digg
Real Time LGF Derangement Syndrome at Digg
Diggbats vs. LGF

You can see the transition from, "wooo, Digg kicks ass and gives us TEH TRAFFIC" to, "people on Digg suck" in this post from the other day: LGF Swimming Upstream. I'm really interested in the interaction of a given site with the others in its environment. Hardly a new interest for me, but my perspective is changing a bit.

Anyway... that's about all I got. I am a bit bummed out today... it's quiet after a busy few days with friends around all the time, which always gets me down a bit. Plus there are a couple lingering personal issues on my mind that I'm sure most of you are already aware of. They're weighing a bit heavy at the moment. Of course, I slept last night and my fatigue isn't helping. The only rational approach to this is to order delivery from one restaurant or another whose deliverators will brave wintery mix.
